As of Tuesday March 1, ice was still very solid between North Shore and Long Island.
Rain and melting had made it very slick however, and no snow cover at all, so not great for sleds.
Saw a couple cars/pickups on the ice, and fishing huts were being removed.
I predict another 2 weeks or so of *reasonably safe* access on the ice in this area, due to our current cold weather, and the existing thickness of the ice.
Who knows, maybe open water by first week of April?
